To fully understand the motivation and determination of Elder James Edwell, one must reference Matthew 11:15 where Jesus tells the disciples of John that the proof that He is the Christ is vested in his willingness, among other things, to preach the gospel to the poor.

Encouraged by this commitment, Elder James Edwell and his wife First Lady Dianne started New Life Christian Ministries in March 2010.  Shortly after the church was founded God spoke prophetically that the church would be a place of healing and worship and a family for all who come and the name of the ministry was changed to New Life Family Worship Center.

Elder Edwell began his ministry under the Pastorate of the late Bishop F. M. Thomas in Pittsburgh PA.  While under that ministry, the young James was known more for writing poetry and playing the drums but all the while he studied the word of God and men of God.  Over the years, while a member of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Elder Edwell served in many capacities in the local, district, state and national levels including positions such as State Sunday School Chaplain, District Young People’s President and Personal Assistant to President of the National Young Peoples Union.

On July 4, 1984, God shined upon Elder Edwell and he was joined in marriage to the former Dianne C. Rawlings of Pittsburgh.  To this union God has added 3 children, Janelle, James, III and Jonathan and two grandchildren, Jaelyn and Kendyl.

In 1991, Elder Edwell, joined the Fountain of Life Church in Pittsburgh PA and sat under the ministry of Bishop Gerald Lloyd.  It was under this mentorship that Elder Edwell was ordained and his ministry began to blossom.  While attending the Fountain, the Lord revealed significant principles to Elder Edwell on leadership training.  As a result, Elder Edwell has developed a series of leadership training seminars that have been a blessing to churches across the nation.

In 2000, Elder Edwell and family were assigned to pastor a church in Lakeland FL.  He served in that capacity for 16 months before returning to Pittsburgh.

Upon his return to the city of his birth, Elder Edwell continued to travel the country preaching God’s word and teaching leaders.  In 2008, just prior to starting New Life, God led Pastor James to return briefly to the PAW and work with Bishop Nathan McAllister, a lifelong mentor.  Through this reunion, Pastor Edwell was ordained an Elder by the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World.

After starting New Life, Pastor and First Lady Edwell, heard the word of the Lord and joined the Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith under the leadership of Bishop John Leslie.

Elder Edwell is employed as a national salesman and consultant for a litigation services company.  He graduated summa cum laude from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA and is currently working on his Masters of Arts degree in Biblical Studies at Trinity Theological Seminary.

However, his passion is ministry to God’s people.  His messages are encouraging and uplifting designed to build the esteem of Christians.  He is known for such messages as “No More Crumbs”, “Surviving Your Off-Season” and “Who Buried Me?”

Elder James Edwell is an anointed preacher and teacher who loves God’s word and believes that it alone can change the lives of men and women.
